Owning YEC Rack System vs. Outsourcing Services for HDD Test, Erase, Repair

September 7th, 2010

I recently took a nice vacation in beautiful Hawaii, hoping not to think about work and hard drives for 8 days. However that didn’t last very long. Typically a vacation should be at least 2 weeks because you don’t really get to relax until the 2nd week of your vacation.  Every so often my family would get annoyed with me checking my email on new HTC Evo 4G phone.  BTW; the beaches is Ohau is as beautiful as ever.

YEC has released a new product called the USB Media Blaster.  This easy to use adapter will allow you to connect any drive with a USB interface directly to your existing YEC products.  With this adapter you no longer have to remove drives from their enclosures or use a seperate product when working with USB thumbdrives.

Enterprise SAS and Fibre Channel Hard Drive Duplicator and Tester/Wiper

April 21st, 2010

Not all enterprise class duplicators are created equal.  Most manufacturers will say their SAS & Fibre Channel duplicators are hardware-based when in fact, they are software driven solutions with a PC main board underneath their enclosure. The problem with software based-technology is its slow speed and unreliability.

Good Morning.

Today I’d like to discuss my recent trip to the gators’ state of Florida to visit two customers with similar needs for Hard Drive Testing requirements but at different realms of the hard drive life cycle business. One client is on the forward end (brand new hard drive) while the other client is after-life market end (hard drive recycling).

Hard Drive Test, Repair and Wipe Tools vs. Data Recovery Equipment

March 17th, 2010

Which Hard Drive Tester or Repair equipment should I buy? What’s the right product for me?Today I had a customer that was confused between data recovery equipment and hard drive recertifying equipments. To clarify, Data Recovery equipment such as the Atola Insight USB or Atola Insight Ethernet Disksense is a Data Recovery tool to extract, rescue and recover data from unstable hard drives. The steps for Data Recovery are simple; if the hard drive is stable enough, image it right away to save the raw data. Otherwise repair the unstable hard drive (logical or physical) and then image it. The Atola Insight has advanced imaging features (speed up to 6GB per min) that can do both forward / reverse and skips over bad sector in milliseconds. Software imagers can only do slow forward imaging and hang/freeze on bad sectors. The Atola Insight can repair logical problems such as firmware, physical damage diagnostics, and hard drive ATA password removal as well. With the Atola Insight, you can have an All-in-One solution for all your Data Recovery needs. Hard Drive Recertification equipment like the Rack System or Geisha will test and repair bad sectors, and secure erase (wipe data) to NSA/DOD level. This process is to assure that re-usable drives are certified and that all data is securely erased/wiped so no traces of information are left behind when the hard drive is re-sold to the open market. Standard process: the Geisha or Rack System will start out testing the SMART and the sectors (randomly or sector to sector). If needed, repair the bad sectors and test them again to assure quality working drives. Lastly, wipe/erase the hard drive to a secure level with certification. All features on the Rack System or Geisha (Test, Repair,Wipe/Erase) can be customized to the customer’s requirement.Ji2, Sales Rep., Edwin Tran
